Darien completed the undefeated season on Saturday, June 14 after routing out New Canaan in the CIAC Class M champion game.
This marked the second time in school history that the Blue Wave went the entire season without a loss. On top of that, it is Darien’s 10th state title.
Darien got ahead early with a 3-1 first quarter. Both teams netted a goal in the second quarter, bringing the game to a 4-2 halftime score.
The second half saw stronger offenses from both squads. Darien came out of the break hot taking the third 4-2, doubling its first half tally. New Canaan came right back at the Blue Wave with a four goal fourth, but Darien’s two goals were enough to give them a 10-8 advantage when the final whistle blew.
Jack Kniffin paced Darien’s seven different goal scorers with a hat trick. Ian Burgoyne added on two goals and two assists.
In a superb team effort, Darien is back on top of the Class M division. At 23-0, the Blue Wave finish ranked 5th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings and 1st in Connecticut.
